HAL Wrestling | HAL Laboratory (Human) | 1990 | - Get a headlock on fun with Hal Wrestling! - Eight rompin', stompin' brutes square off in head-to-head matches any sports fan can enjoy! - All the pro wrestling moves you can use and a few you haven't seen before! - Go one-on-one against the computer or a friend, or round up your own four-man wrecking crew for thunderous action! - Hal Wrestling - we're coming to get YOU!*** [69]*** [63]*** [63]*** [37]***Although it tries to be a portable version of Human's Fire ProWrestling, HAL Wrestling doesn't quite capture the feel. It features characters based on various real-life personas (such as Riki Choshu, Jushin Liger, and Big Van Vader), just like its big brother. Although it's easy to tell that this is an early title on a new system, it does an adequate job with keeping the graphics uncluttered, and it's pretty easy to tell what your character just used to slam your opponent. Unfortunately, the movement and controls seem stiff, which is a major flaw in a game like this, and the computer will take advantage of it. [Jacquismo] | labelimagesubject |
WWF Superstars | LJN;Hot-B (Rare) | 1991 | The first wrestling game for the Game Boy! WWF Superstars features five wrestlers that compete in a series of one-on-one matches: Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, The Ultimate Warrior, Mr. Perfect, and Ted DiBiase. Prior to a bout, the characters will trash talk with each other (the speeches change depending on which characters are paired up), which is a neat feature. The wrestling itself is similar to Wrestlemania Challenge on the NES, although the characters only really differ by a single move (the third attack after two punches) and in appearance. The graphics are pretty darn good for an early game on the system, though. [Jacquismo] | labelimageminimize |
Kinnikuman: The Dream Match | Yutaka (Toei) | 1992 | A rather mediocre fighting/wrestling game featuring the characters from the popular Kinnikuman series. Pummel your opponent, then use the Start button to unleash your ultimate slam! [Jacquismo] | labelimageminimize |
WWF Superstars 2 | LJN (Sculptured Software) | 1992 | A somewhat simple wrestling game featuring WWF stars like "Macho Man" Randy Savage, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, and The Undertaker. Unfortunately, all differences in characters are purely cosmetic. However, the game compensates by adding a new steel cage match mode. Play single matches (either alone or as a tag team) or enter the race for the World Heavyweight Championship! [Jacquismo] | labelimagesubject |
Shin Nihon Pro Wrestling: Toukon Sanjushi | Varie | 1993 | A wrestling game featuring New Japan Pro Wrestling's three biggest stars: Keiji Muto, Masahiro Chono, and Shinya Hashimoto. Unfortunately, a big license does not make a good game. The characters look exactly alike (although the computer is a darker skin tone) and differ only by their basic attacks, though the grappling moves are the same. Also, a roster of only three selectable characters is disappointing. Toukon Sanjushi fails miserably at capturing the excitement of New Japan Pro Wrestling. The subtitle of the game translates to "Fighting Spirit Three Musketeers," which refers to the three characters of the game, known as the Three Musketeers by NJPW fans.
